Generally concrete mixture ratios are the proportions of all the concrete components that include sand, cement, water and aggregates. All these substances mix ratios depends totally in the construction types and designs of mix. However, the building codes give the standard as well as nominal concrete mixture ratios for different construction works depending on the testing and experience. All these concrete mix type ratios are clearly explained below.

Types of Concrete Mix Ratio and their Strengths

Nominal Concrete Mix Ratios

Generally in past, the concrete specifications had recommended the proportions of cement, coarse and fine aggregates. These constant cement-aggregate ratio mix that gives the sufficient strength are marked as the nominal mixes. These nominal mixed provide simplicity and in normal circumstances, they do consists a strength more than specified. But due to difference in ingredients mix, these nominal concrete ratio for the workability given would widely vary in terms of strength.

Nominal mix ratios for these concrete mix are 1:2:4 for M15, 1:1.5:3 for M20 etc.

Standard Mixes or Ratio

The nominal mixes as mentioned above for cement aggregate ratio would result in wide variation of strength and also could lead to over or under-rich mixes. That why, the minimum compressive strength has got added in most of the specifications and it is called as standard mixes.

IS 456 2000 model has designated it’s concrete mixes as M40, M35, M30, M25, M20, M15, M10.

which are called as number of grades. In it the letter M indicates the mix and also the the twenty eight day cube strength mix in the units of N/mm2.

Designed Mix Ratio of Concrete

In this designed mixes, the concrete performance of given by the designer but the proportions or mix is specified by the concrete producer. However, the content of minimum cement could be excluded and can be paid down. This method is used mostly for the mix proportions sections that includes particular materials in mind consisting of less or more unique characteristics. This technique gives the concrete production with

appropriate properties most economically. However, these designed mixtures does can not be the guides as they doesn’t assure the exact mix proportions for the required performance.

Table given below gives the details of various types of concrete mix ratios and their strengths.

The mobile concrete mixer could be used for various projects and as a solution for many issues. The main advantage that these mobile mixers could give is flexibility of always consisting of a fresh concrete in your site by the time you require it. Below given are few of the most common uses and applications of a mobile mixer:

Self-consolidating concrete (SCC)

Roller compacted concrete (RCC)

Wet and dry shotcrete

Municipal applications

Overlay concrete

Pervious concrete

Rapid setting concrete and

Flowable fill

When and Why You Need a Mobile Concrete Mixer?

The answer for the above question is quite simple. Generally, these mobile concrete mixers provides you the best equipment to have your personal concrete plant batch. While compared to the mixing of traditional drum, this solution type could few times be the great time saving option and cost-effective equipment. If your work on this concrete is only couple of cubic meters a day or a week, then it would be pretty best equipment for you to buy. Rather than thinking about the moving of front-end loaders, conveying equipment, parts, and some other equipment, this mixer offers you everything under one single truck. Best of all, you can even rent this equipment instead of purchasing it on your own. If you go over to Extreme Pumping site you will gain enough knowledge for the pros and cons of this equipment. Just by renting it, you would get it delivered to your job doorstep and also hour will have control of your timing and concrete delivery.

Along with the flexible size and the amount of place needed to keep this mobile mixer, this portable concrete mixer, could even cross the advantages of other portable equipment that can beat other traditional drum mixers, because it could taken to many places and the mix of concrete can be easily changed. Below are few of the benefits of using mobile mixer.

  • In these mobile concrete mixer, ingredients needed are preserved in separate bins, making them to get the fresh and quality mix on each delivery.
  • The mixer equipment could carry their water tank if any additional water is required for them, and they even they can make adjustments to the mix as required
  • As with any regular concrete mixer plant, these equipment can also be customized to add mixtures and color to the concrete batch
  • Some of these mixers could offer up to  11 cubic meters and a production rate around 70 to 75 meters per hour.
  • Best of all, these mobile concrete mixers will be available at your convenience 24/7 and make you to have concrete ready at any time and any day.
  • These concrete trucks are available in various sizes based on the amount of concrete you will need.
  • Concrete by this equipment is always fresh, and for keeps you away from the worries about concrete being over mixed or too hot.
  • It decreases the concrete waste amount and also it could reduce the shortages by blending the amount you require.
  • This equipment is perfect for the remote location mainly while the batch plant could not be kept at the job site.
  • Through this equipment you could mix just the things that you are willing to pour.
  • Various jobs could be done without requiring to send back the equipment to the batch plant.

The concrete mixer is the blend of water along with cement, aggregates that provides the concrete in a mechanical way. There are plenty of concrete mixer available in market that could produce the concrete economically as well as quickly.

Types of Concrete Mixers

Mainly there are two types of concrete mixers available:

1. Batch mixers that are divided into

  1. Pan type mixer and
  2. Drum type mixer that is further divided into
    • Reversing drum mixer
    • Non-tilting drum mixer and
    • Tilting drum mixers
  1. Continuous Mixers

Here are various types of concrete mixing machines available:

Continuous Mixers

Continuous concrete mixers, function is mainly to mix, load and to discharge the mix continuously until the entire work is done or until the work break occurs. In this machine, materials loading is done continuously by the screw feeders. These continuous mixtures are mainly used for very huge projects such as bridges, dams and construction of high rise buildings, etc

Batch Concrete Mixers

These batch concrete mixers are the mostly used concrete machines for the mixing of concrete. The concrete mixture made from this concrete mixer is collected is taken out as a batch and time by time and it’s the reason we call it as batch mixer. By keeping all the materials required in to drum or pan, it starts blending of all that substances for few minutes and finally it discharges them. This whole process is continuously repeated till the needed amount of concrete mixture is made.

Generally these batch mixers are two types:

  1. Drum mixer type and
  2. Pan mixers type

Pan Type Concrete Mixers

These pan concrete mixers consists of a pan in a circular shape that is used to mix the concrete. In this pan, concrete mixing is done by series of balded arrange in the shape of star inside the pan.

These pan type concrete mixers are further divided into two types.

In one case, the circular pan type concrete mixer is constant while just blades arranged in star manner rotate about the vertical axis of pan. Whereas, in the other case, this circular pan rotates and star blades stay in static position. However, in these two cases, the mixing is done efficiently and the mixture is taken through the hole present in the center of the pan.

 Drum Type Mixers

In drum type concrete mixers, all the substances are blended in the shape of double conical frustum. These drum types mixers are divided into three types:

  • Reversing drum mixers
  • Non-tilting drum mixers
  • Tilting drum mixers

Reversing Drum Mixers

Reversing drum concrete mixers are very same as non-tilting mixers types. However, in these mixers the rotation reversal takes place for the various actions. The drum consists of 2 openings, one opening is for ingredients keeping and other opening is for mix discharging.

Non-Tilting Drum Mixers

In this non- tilting mixers, the mixture of concrete do not get tilted and in this methodology, the drum of the mixer rotates itself about its horizontal axis. Finally, for discharge, the chute is placed in an inclined position that will get the mix of the concrete from drum that then discharge out.

Tilting Drum Mixers

In these tilting drum mixer, the mixer of concrete will be discharged from drum by tilting it towards down. It could quickly discharge the process and it is used for the huge projects.

However, the efficiency of mixing in this mixer mainly depends on the following factors:

  • Angle of blades
  • Blades size and
  • Shape of the drum

One of the major drawbacks of this mixer is that in most of the times, the concrete sticks to the drum bottom.
